Relation-Chute provides a stage for action to contemplate the difficulty in understanding the complexities of visual images of death. Through this project, the artist attempts to change her relationship to pain and death by participating in the act of slaughtering animals for consumption. The method used for slaughter is Zabiha Halal practiced by Muslims.

Reactions/Thoughts

The slaughterhouse. I had trouble enlarging some of the photos on my machine, so I saw the tiny images- and maybe 3 I could enlarge. The goat with a slit throat in the slaughterhouse looked pure, and I thought "Maybe its possible to kill while also feeling total compassion." (so maybe its not so bad) Then I saw the next photo of Asma slitting its throat with a blade, and I sensed how hard the skin and throat must have been and that a real physical thing had to be cut up. Then it just seemed senseless. It must be more difficult to feel compassion in the direct act of violence. But it doesnt mean its impossible.
...interesting, the great thing about photos is that they can be powerful in general...the slaughter though, its somehow confusing...when I attempt to align it all 2gether..I'm unfortunately getting lost. I do think that they're all intriguing aspects to consider, but if the photos are...inviting me in to contemplate, I only contemplate the slaughter I think because thats all I pretty much see...I still feel its doing something in me though...just don't know what. Good job!
